Photo's From Election Night

by: Matt Glazer

Thu Nov 13, 2008 at 16:37:37 PM CST

Election Night was incredible.  Thousands of Travis County Democrats filled the historic Driskill Hotel downtown and 6th street.

We celebrated victory from the courthouse to the White House.  We watched election returns come in throughout the country in the same place LJB celebrated victory.

There are more than a few pictures from the wonderful night. Take a look.

What a Night

by: Matt Glazer

Wed Nov 05, 2008 at 18:04:42 PM CST

Last night Democrats in Austin watched returns at the historic Driskill Hotel, and we celebrated.

Last night we had victories from the courthouse to the White House. While we joined the nation in celebrating Barack Obama's historic election, we rejoiced locally too.

Karen Huber took back Ann Richards' seat and made the Travis County Commissioners Court completely blue!

Valinda Bolton held on and defeated one of Tom Craddick's hand picked candidates to serve the people of Texas under the pink dome.

Donna Howard and Mark Strama also won handily in House District 48 and 50.

Jim Coronado and Woodie Jones will take their place on the bench putting fairness and justice back in our courts.

Our local Democrats, Nelda Wells-Spears, Ron Davis, Greg Hamilton, Adan Ballesteros, Richard McCain, and Bruce Elefant all won too.

Not only did we win every race in Austin last night, we also made over 7,500 calls into El Pason and helped elect Joe Moody as the newest Representative in El Paso.

Last night was a big night for all of us.  Thank you for all you have done and thank you for all you will do. Our job isn't one yet, over the next two years we will continue to work to Turn Texas Blue!

Great News!

by: Crystal Viagran

Tue Nov 04, 2008 at 08:27:44 AM CST

(the proof is in the numbers... come volunteer right now at 1107 N. I-35 and then show up tonight at the Driskill. - promoted by Matt Glazer)

The proof is in the numbers-- people are empowered this election.

In 2004, 42,902 Hispanics turned out during early vote and on E-Day. Simply put, a little less than 43,000 total Hispanic voters turned out in 2004.

4 years later, with only Election Day left, we have already had 39,155 of the 82,729 registered Hispanics voters cast a ballot. That is 47.3% of all the registered Hispanics and 91.2% of the 2004 turnout.

There is still a lot to do today, but these are incredible numbers!

Impressive!

by: Matt Glazer

Mon Nov 03, 2008 at 15:30:05 PM CST

Can you believe it?

PhotobucketWe started this historic journey with the goal of having the most effective Coordinated Campaign in Travis County History.  We have, without a doubt, exceeded all expectations.  This weekend, we literally made our 1 millionth voter contact.  We started earlier than ever before. We raised more money than ever before. We even have a larger building than ever before.  We have knocked on more doors and made more calls than any Travis County Coordinated campaign, ever.

It is paying off!

After 6 months, the journey ends tomorrow as tens of thousands of Travis County voters flood the polls and cast a ballot to put Sam Houston, Linda Yanez, and Jim Jordan on the state's highest court.  Voters will put Woodie Jones on the 3rd Court of Appeals and Susan Strawn on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.  Voters will elect Jim Coronado, Adan Ballesteros, and Karen Huber.  We will re-elect our fantastic All-Democratic State Representatives and our impressive Tax Assessor-Collector, Nelda Wells Spears.

We are going to do this because we have registered over 30,000 new voters. We have sent over 100,000 mail pieces, knocked on 200,000 doors, and made over 700,000 calls.

Now, it is time to finish the work we have done.

There are only 24 hours left to help Turn Texas Blue. We need you to volunteer today and tomorrow at 1107 N I-35 to elect every Democrat from the Courthouse to the White House.

You have done so much, and we appreciate everything you have given.  We are so close to the end, and every dollar you donate and every hour you volunteer makes an impact.

Look no further than the fact that the Travis County Democratic Party has raised more money on ActBlue than any other county party in the country!  The dollars and cents you have given have added up.  The minutes and hours have made it possible for us to do more than ever before.

We are almost done.  Please donate your time or a few dollars today so we have the resources we need to finish this impressive campaign.

Once we are done tomorrow, please join us to watch the results at the historic Driskill Hotel. Celebrate election night in the place where LBJ watched election returns in 1960 and 1964.

Election Night Celebration
Tuesday, November 4, 2008
7:00pm until the final vote is counted
Driskill Hotel, 604 Brazos St.
Free admission and it all begins at 7:00 when the polls close.

We are almost there.  With your help in these final hours, we will Turn Texas Blue!
